George Walker at 95: A Musical Portrait

SEPTEMBER 29, 2017 AT 8:00PM

A world-premiere performance of the complete piano sonatas by George Walker is presented by Kaleidoscope MusArt and the Frost School of Music in celebration of the composer’s 95th birthday. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Music (1996), Walker has been recognized as “one of the greatest composers of our time” (Fanfare Magazine, 2015). His music has been hailed for its “powerful authenticity and dramatic expression” (Classical New Jersey), “hushed beauty and passionate intensity” (American Record Guide). The piano sonatas will be performed by Frost School of Music alumnus, pianist Redi Llupa. The concert will feature the composer’s son, violinist Gregory Walker, in collaboration with Frost piano faculty Oleksii Ivanchenko. A brief documentary on George Walker’s life and career produced by Frank Schramm, as well as an address by the composer himself filmed exclusively for this occasion will be displayed at the event.
