“The Living Legacy of Dennis Kam”

This program pays tribute to the compositional and pedagogical legacy of Dr. Dennis Kam (1942-2018), whose creative activity left an indelible mark on the cultural life of Miami. Four compositions for solo piano by Dr. Kam will be heard alongside works by three of his former students: Dorothy Hindman, Charles Norman Mason, and Orlando Jacinto Garcia. Each of these three composers will speak about their featured work as well as their relationship with Dennis Kam. The program will also feature introductory remarks by Dennis Kam’s wife, composer and pianist Cynthia Chun Kam, and his close friend and colleague, composer John Van der Slice, both of whom will join the featured composers in a Q&A session at the end of the program. Registration is free but required.
