Kaleidoscope MusArt Young Talents Showcase Concert and Masterclass

Kaleidoscope MusArt’s annual Young Talents Showcase [YTS] project offers young pianists ages 18 and under an opportunity to discover and perform rarely-heard repertoire, with an emphasis on composers of the 20th and 21st centuries.

YTS Auditions will select up to 10 pianists to perform in the YTS Concert on December 06, 2020. Up to 3 applicants will also participate in a free, online masterclass with Kevin Kenner on November 7, 2020, co-presented with Frost School of Music’s Advanced Preparatory Piano Program.

Application deadline: October 25, 2020  

Results will be announced: November 2, 2020

PARTICIPATION RULES  and APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicants must submit a live, unedited video recording of at least one composition from the required repertory list (below).
  • In addition to each piece chosen from the required repertory list, each applicant may submit a work of their own choice.
  • Recording(s) must be in video format and submitted as a YouTube link(s).
  • There is no maximum number of recordings that may be submitted by each applicant. However, the amount of works of the performer’s choice may not exceed the amount of works selected from the required repertory list.
  • All recorded compositions must be performed from memory.
  • All applicants will receive written evaluation(s) of their application recording(s) from at least one of the three members of the audition panel upon request.
  • Kaleidoscope MusArt Young Talents Showcase events will be advertised online and in print.
  • YTS Masterclass will be live-streamed online; on-demand replay of the event will be available to the registered attendees for up to two weeks after the event.
  • Applicants selected to participate in the YTS Concert will be required to submit their final performance video files by November 22, 2020. KMA will provide the concert participants with further guidelines on how to submit their final video and enhance the quality of the final recording.
  • YTS Concert, streamed at 4:00PM EST on December 6, 2020, will feature the pre-recorded performances of the selected YTS applicants and live introductions by KMA team members and guests.

HOW TO APPLY:

Applications must be submitted electronically.

Applicants will be asked to provide:

  • Applicant’s name and age.
  • Name and contact information of applicant’s parent/guardian.
  • Name and contact information of applicant’s piano teacher
  • Youtube link(s) to application recording(s). Please provide a separate YouTube video for each of the submitted works. These YouTube video(s) may be unlisted, but their URL(s) must remain valid until November 22, 2020.
  • A short biography of the applicant (200 words maximum).
  • A copy of applicant’s birth certificate, passport, or another form of ID verifying applicant’s age.
  • An Application Fee of $35.

RESULTS:

  • Audition results will be announced no later than NOVEMBER 2, 2020.
  • Results will be posted on Kaleidoscope MusArt website and social media.
  • Applicants selected to perform in Kaleidoscope MusArt Young Talents Showcase will receive an email notification.
  • The results are final and irrevocable.

REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS:

  • The list below is roughly divided into two broad categories based on levels of difficulty: elementary-intermediate and advanced. This categorization is given merely as a reference for the teachers. Repertoire listed under each category encompasses a broad range of difficulty levels.
  • All chosen compositions must be of a similar level of difficulty, determined accordingly by the studio teacher based on the applicant’s skills and experience.

Teachers may inquire about substituting works from the required repertoire list with other works of similar difficulty and style by 20th and 21st century composers or composers already on the list. All repertoire substitution requests should be submitted via email to kma@kaleidoscopemusart.com and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
